Cybernetica EmiTrax: online emission surveillance for the aluminium industry

Cybernetica EmiTrax is our new online solution for monitoring and prediction of dust and heavy metal emissions. Developed out of the NESA research collaboration, EmiTrax combines a distributed sensor system with adaptive real-time pot room models and state-of the-art models for environmental dispersion.
Stein O. Wasbø, our manager for metallurgical solutions, is confident that Cybernetica EmiTrax can help aluminium producers streamline environmental reporting.
“We built EmiTrax to serve the emerging need of the aluminium and broader metallurgical industry to advance beyond after-the-fact reporting. In developing EmiTrax, we have solved technical challenges to bridge indoor process expertise with outdoor emissions modelling. The NESA strategy has been to combine particulate sensors with a fingerprint for heavy metals in particulate matter to track emissions of both respirable dust and heavy metals from the plant to the environment. The use of verified dispersion models allows plants to confidently monitor outdoor conditions at sites in their local environment.”
Cybernetica has worked with Nemko Norlab, SINTEF, Alcoa and Hydro to demonstrate the underlying methods, and is now bringing this capability to market for plants across the aluminium industry.
